I'd give Ken Burns an A plus at raising money, an A at spending it as quickly as possible, and an F at gaining knowledge and presenting a coherent story. If someone gave me $13 million to put together a film on a subject, I'd at least learn something about what I'm filming!

The only jazz records that will increase in sales will be the reissues owned by Columbia and Verve as they repackage the same music again for the umpteenth time. Very little of the money will go to any musicians.

Fortunately this will all blow over in a month or two. Explain to me how anyone can film the history of jazz and not include Django Reinhardt, Oscar Peterson, Nat King Cole and Wes Montgomery!
